Death Sensei

Super big large huge delay! It’s been a while since I updated this site with actual content. But I digress, today I’m bringing you Death Sensei! I received her a while ago as some of you may remember from an earlier post, and I felt that it was a good idea to keep up to date with the Peace@Pieces series of figures from Alter.

So, after a long wait, a new photo shoot!

Death Sensei, one of the characters that I find appealing, if only for her name. There’s something that I can’t put my finger on, but this type of character really tingles my moé senses. Perhaps the way she looks at people? Maybe the elaborate hair? I can’t really tell… Whatever it is, I like what I see XD

Location

This will sound somewhat vague, but I took Death to one of the buildings in Southbank, which is across the Yarra River, opposite of Flinders Street Train Station. As it was some sort of business building, it was quite modern, with large window panes and somewhat post modern decor. The ground floor was the place of interest, having a lounge area next to a cafe :3

Setup

Everything was fairly straight forward, though I did forget to bring a reflector. I had to make do with scrap pieces of paper ^^;

There was a small problem with the camera position though, the seats are squishy so it was hard to keep the tripod balanced.

My camera is giving me a hard time, I’m finding that I’ve been post editing the photos more and more these days. I’m starting to feel that my camera is showing its age…. I would like to get a DSLR but right now I’m still low on money with spendings, but that’s a story for another post ^^

Figure

Mysterious Death~ I haven’t played Peace@Pieces before so I’m not sure on the whole story of any of the characters, Death included. Morikawa Hiromitsu has done an excellent job of depicting Death. Her pose gives off a nice elegance and the paint work of Alter is top notch. There are a few seamlines but they are mostly kept out of way whenever possible. The detailing of the model is not too overly complex in style which keeps it in tune with the game, which I think fits very well.

Thoughts

Frustration. That word sums it all up. I was frustrated that it took so long to get another photo shoot, frustrated that it took so long to process it, and frustrated that it required so much work. However the photos turned out decently I think. I had to colour correct quite a bit more than normal but hopefully it looks ok for you people~

Also, I am a lil worried about the noise I can see in the images, I guess this new LCD screen is good for something at least o_o;

Summary

A great figure to have. If you already have the previous Hikaru and Nagi, then this Death is a must have XD Just like the other two figures by Alter, she’s superbly done and deserves to be in anyone’s collection of Peace@Pieces figures. I’m hoping that Alter will do more of the characters from Peace@Pieces, but only time will tell.

I had a fairly relaxed time while taking the photos, the lounge area had carpet floors, and it was quite cool inside compared to the heat outside (yes…it was back when the weather was hot).

So, after a long wait, I hope you guys enjoy this photo shoot. It was taken a long time ago as well, so the delay was a really long one @_@

Ok~ Time for a lil update chat since I’m currently on my last day of trimester break @_@

Otakurean owner, pp, has sent me an August soft/Aria clearfile folder as a giveaway prize. I recieved this MONTHS ago but had no time to take a good picture of it yet. I’ll try to update this asap as I feel somewhat guilty of not doing so.

As most of the regular readers would know, my update frequency is low as ever, going as low as 1 per month, and those posts aren’t even proper ones! I’ve been super busy with my studies so far as this is a fast tracked course (3 year studies into 2 years) so I’ve been doing most of the work >.< Perhaps I’ll show you the 2D/3D work one day?

Also, I’ve updated WordPress, which has given me a lil more trouble but so far so good… except for IE 6 users, the right-right sidebar seems to be …down further than usual ^^; I’m not sure how to fix this, and right now I don’t have time to fix it @_@ So I’ll see what I can do within the coming weeks (the earlier weeks in a trimester are usually less loaded with work…usually…)

I’m going to have to say that I’ll prolly won’t be updating this blog as much as when I first started. This isn’t due to my lack of interest, on the contrary, I would rather be updating my blog, but uni work takes priority, and unfortunately, it takes a lot of my spare time… So I apologise to the regular readers who may be disappointed with the less updates >.<

Went to dentist this morning, now I can’t feel my mouth =/. The good thing tho, is that I picked up my latest figure, De@th Sensei.

I’m still thinking of where the potential spots for a photo shoot, but I still need to post Pachira and Tsukino~

Nagi – School ver

Oh god,
before I go any further, this is prolly the worst batch of photos from the Manifest photo shoot day >.<

So here is Nagi, in her normal school outfit, you may remember her from a previous post

I’m almost ashamed to post this set but oh well, it’s a short post-ish. Here we go!!

Location

Nagi was having her photo shoot at the quad area in Melbourne University, I don’t know the actual name of this area but it’s beautiful. Makes you feel like you’re in a castle :D

Setup

Again, no mini-tripod but I didn’t really need it for this area, what I really REALLY needed was a piece of white canvas/paper/SOMETHING to stop the green reflection of the grass =/

Figure

I love this figure, it’s just so appealing to me for some reason. Maybe the hair? clothes? her bust? who knows. Sculpted by Hiromitsu Morikawa, this 1/8 figure is spouting of Goodsmile company/Alter quality.

She’s painted nicely as well, soft gradients give her more depth in the curves and creases. While not an entirely accurate sculpt of how she looks in the game, it’s still pretty as ever. Oh, and you can take her skirt off :3

Thoughts

The worst photo shoot of that day, mainly due to the sun’s indecisive bouts of hiding behind cloud or not. Gah, I’m just awestruck at how many of the photos sucked ^^;
Sorry folks.

Summary

Moé is what I would describe this Nagi. She was one of my first figures, and one of the older ones in my collection, so old that it doesn’t even appear in Goodsmile’s website o_o; Anyway if you look reaaal hard in some of the photos, you can see a white area on the tips of her back hair, that’s from me DROPPING her… I guess the strong highlights mask most of it away, yay for bad photography! XD

Hikaru – God of Death ver

Aah~ Here’s my little Hikaru :3 She’s a cute lil one. Hikaru is also from Peace@Pieces and is done by the same company that did Nagi in the previous post.

Hikaru Momose in her God of Death attire, cute as any other death clad heroine, she is here before you sprouting her bubbly happi-erm, death…

Location

This is gonna be short as it’s the same place as Nagi… just right of where Nagi was actually, but only about 1 metre away. I’d like the plants in the back to have more of those flowering heads but I guess we’re too early (it’s winter here :3)

The first two pictures however, were taken inside the conservatory, you might see noise or blur due to the low light and no tripod =/ I hope one day I’ll be able to take pictures of the figures inside the conservatory, that’ll require me to get a proper tripod tho =/

Setup

Pretty much the same as Nagi except we had a white A4 canvas with us to help reflect some light back at the figure to try to stop those really harsh shadows… doesn’t seem it did too much ;_;

Figure

Cute! Hikaru is a cute lil one, her sculptor is the same as Nagi, Morikawa Hiromitsu. There’s a few seamlines here and there but I don’t really find them noticeable unless you’re looking reeaaaal hard at weird angles. Her stance is a firm one but due to her heavy hair at the back =/ So she needs the base to stay stable. The skirt is a cast off for those ecchi minded folk who like to display their figures without it or something…

The sculpt is a very intricate one in comparison to my other figures, she has four pieces of clothing that extends and has three gold rings on the end, along with the gold rings on her ankles, and other pieces of floppy fabrics, AND her hair, AND the ribbon, AND her muffler, you get the point.

The paint is also top notch, from her beautiful eye to the patterns on her clothes. The guns she hold, Truth and Lies are also nicely done, right down to their names on the side of the barrels.

Thoughts

Not much to say, everything was said in Nagi’s post ^^;
Still, I’d like it if there were more flowering plants at this time for photo shoots, perhaps I’ll take out Hikaru again when spring comes about. I like the conservatory as well, not too many people come so it’s fairly quiet, but when people do come they usually come in groups.

Summary

RIBBON PANTSU! *ahem* Hikaru is another figure that I rank above most others due to the sheer complexity of her sculpt, and one that I recommend anyone to get, should they have a thing for cute girls in cuter clothing holding the cutest guns. (what?)

Nagi – God of Death ver

Wowie~ A photo shoot! Sorry about the delay, I got classes now and it takes a lil extra time to process the photos~ ^^;

This photo shoot is slightly different as the location wasn’t pre-determined beforehand and is one of the larger groups I’ve been in, four people as opposed to two.

Today we get to see Nagi Akizuki in her God of Death attire. I can’t help but wonder on how she would kill you… Oh, I never played the game by the way. Peace@Pieces is a eroge by Unisonshift, with gorgeous art from Ito Noizi. The game was basically about… ok, I don’t know that either, moving along.

Location

Today’s location was quite unexpected. The idea was to meet up with fellow comrades and then move off into the Fitzroy Gardens to take photos. We went around until I noticed the Conservatory and decided to check it out. We first tried inside but because of the lack of light and proper tripod we had to relocate. We moved to the exit and I saw the small courtyard of the Conservatory which was to be the place :3

Setup

We had a nice sunny day, but that had problems in it’s own. We had a white A4 canvas to reflect some light, but we only had one ^^; I brought along 2 figures for the photo shoot, Nagi and Hikaru. Nagi was on a sun dial while Hikaru was on the brick boundary. One of my friend and I were the photo takers while one was helping and the other was video taping us in our natural habitat.

Figure

Nagi, such a sexy figure. She’s quite well endowed and the figure shows it. She sits atop a …bug? which is also kinda cute. The sculptor Morikawa Hiromitsu has done a nice job but somehow Nagi seems much more “cuter” than the game illustrations. Some may not like the look but I kinda like it myself.

The paint job on Nagi is well done as expected from Alter quality. The white and blue clothes which Nagi wears are painted with a glossy finish and parts of it even shine with a pearlescent gloss. The green edges of her skirt are also covered in this gloss.

Nagi’s face is nicely sculptured and painted as well. While her left eye is mostly covered by her hair, it is visible from certain angles and it is painted with the same level of detail of her right eye. Her body sculpt is also very alluring, with all the curvatures to tease the eye.

Thoughts

Another day with the sun in full. Some of the shadows are just too harsh which I’m not too happy about. I didn’t use the canvas for Nagi but I prolly should of. We were taking photos of Nagi and Hikaru at the same time so the canvas was only available for one figure at a time. Some of the photos are over exposed as well, which is a lil shame =/

The photo shoot was ok considering the spontaneous locale, we had like a school of young international students or something walk by that were curious on what we were doing, which was about the only public eyes we had in the quiet gardens.

Summary

UNDERBOOB! *ahem* Nagi is an awesome figure if you like your girls with odd revealing clothes. With a blank stare Nagi seem almost like a goddess of tranquility however the bug she sits on does have a comedic presence. Alter has done a nice job again that compliments Goodsmile’s Nagi in school uniform.’
